Sheriff Lupe Valdez
c/o Dallas County
133 North Industrial Boulevard, LB-31
Dallas, TX 75207-4313
Dear Sheriff Valdez,
My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor,
Michigan with a strong interest in learning history, public policy, and
criminal justice system. In these
subjects, I like to learn the importance of core values like the need to make
Civil Rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect people’s civil
liberties while reduce crime, have immigration reform to help refugees or
immigrants be protected from oppression or oppressive government, and many
others. Sheriff Valdez, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is because I
find your work as Sheriff of Dallas
County to be very inspiring to me and explain how I enjoyed watching your
speech at the DNC 2016 convention.
In your current role as Sheriff of
Dallas County, I like on how you are a strong supporter of Civil Rights to help
protect women, minorities, people with disabilities, and people with different
sexual orientation from being discriminated in public places along with education. Also on Civil Rights, I am very proud on how
you work with minorities communities to find ways to reduce racial profiling, hire
women including minorities to work in law enforcement to make the department
more diverse along with help their own community, advocate for people with
disabilities’ rights, and expand law enforcement resources to help combat
against hate crime. Pushing for funds
for forensic science with DNA testing to help solve crimes efficiently along
with reduce sending an innocent person to jail, expanding treatment programs to
help drug addicts get care they need to rehabilitate, supporting community
service programs to help rehabilitate non-violent offenders including juveniles
so they won’t re-offend, and working with other law enforcement agencies to
find ways to reduce gun violence are great ways to help reform the criminal
justice system. Another thing that I like about your work is
how you work hard to improve public safety like improve quality of health care
in facilities to help people with mental illness, expand freeway management
patrol system to cover in-county highways to make highways safe for people to
drive, and construct jail facility to keep violent criminals off the street.
Your commitment on making Civil Rights stronger, reforming the criminal justice
system, and improving public safety are great ways to improve society while
reduce crime.
Sheriff Valdez, I have Autism with a
learning disability. Having a disability
is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different
subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of
Civil Rights, be committed to reduce discrimination with racial profiling, and
be an advocate for people with disabilities; rights really inspire me to work
hard on my disability. During July 2016,
I saw on tv of you giving a speech at the DNC convention 2016. I enjoyed your
speech because you did an excellent job explaining about how you were born as
an immigrant where you decided to go into law enforcement to help make a great
difference in the criminal justice system while make society better, explain
about the need to make police officers with law enforcement be efficient to
help people, share how law enforcement can make a great impact, and the need
for communities especially minorities communities to work with law enforcement
to reduce tensions. Your role as Sheriff
of Dallas County motivates me to continue my interest in learning history with
public policy. My future goal is to
someday work in public policy to help create common sense ideas to make society
a better place.
I believe that you are making a great
difference as Sheriff of Dallas County. I’m proud on how you work hard to make
communities safe while reform the criminal justice system. You did an excellent
job speaking at the DNC convention 2016 and sharing your story with the need to
make society better. Here is a picture
of me as a gift to you for inspiring me. Thanks for taking the time to read my
letter, working hard to make a great impact on law enforcement with society,
and inspiring me. I hope you enjoy my
letter and I wish you well to continue to make a great impact on society.
Sincerely,
Matt Winick
