Dear Mayor Holt,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan with a strong interest in learning history and social justice.  In these subjects, I like to learn the need to make Civil Rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, and many others.  Mayor Holt, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as 36th Mayor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and your role as a moderate Republican to be very inspiring to me.

In April 2018, I was amazed on how you made history by becoming the first Native American to become Mayor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  In your current role as Mayor, I truly appreciate on how you are a strong supporter of Civil Rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, working with city council to expand laws to combat against hate-crime to help protect minorities including people who are different, and heavily advocate for the need for the criminal justice system to reduce racial profiling in order to protect minorities along with immigrants from being oppressed.  To improve the economy,  I liked on how you expand on jobs-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop work-skills to help prepare them for the workforce and encouraging businesses to hire women, minorities, and people with disabilities to work for them.  Pushing for community policing to help police officers interact with the community to help reduce tension between communities with the police, working with the to find ways to reduce homeless rate by pushing for temporary jobs to help people who are homeless clean the city, and pushing for more health wellness programs along with educational awareness to help reduce obesity while educate people about the need for nutrition with exercising is common sense to improve the city lifestyle.  On education, I liked on how you expand funds to help improve special education to help students with disabilities get the educational accommodations they need to learn, push for more after school programs to provide youth with assistance on their assignments from tutors, and strongly advocate for the need to increase teacher’s pays along with more educational training program to help improve education.  To protect the environment, I liked on how you supported funds for renewable energy resources to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, encouraged businesses including industries to use energy-efficient products to help reduce high energy cost while reduce pollution, and worked with city council to provide funds to help clean parks including water resources to make them safe for people to use. Another thing that I like about your work as Mayor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is how you are a strong advocate for Native American’s rights along with work with the community to find ways to help improve their lifestyle on their reservation,  provide funds to help restore or preserve historical sites including attractions to improve tourism while make learning a better place, and express the need for immigration reform to help protect immigrants including dreamers or refugees from being oppressed.  Also I like on how you are a moderate Republican on supporting Civil Rights, advocating for immigration reform, protecting the environment, and working with other U.S. Mayors from different political affiliation in the U.S. Conference of Mayors to find common sense solutions.

Mayor Holt, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of Civil Rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.  Also your role as Mayor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and as a moderate Republican gives me motivation to continue to learn history including social justice. My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the need for Civil Rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution,  and many others.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference as current Mayor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  I’m very proud on how you are working hard to support Civil Rights, protect the environment, improve social justice, and many others to be very inspiring to me. Another thing to add is that I’m proud on how you are a moderate Republican on advocating for common sense ideas when your own party gets too extreme.  You have inspired me to continue to work hard on my disability and be motivated to continue to learn more history including social justice. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me.  I wish you the best to continue to make a great impact on society and to work with other different U.S. Mayors to make our country including society a better place.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick
