Dear State Controller Yee,
My name is Matt Winick, an Asian
American from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning
history including social justice. In these subjects, I like to learn the need
for Civil Rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment
from pollution, and many others. State Controller Yee, the main reason I’m
writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work when you served as
California Board of Equalization from the 1st District and current
role as 32nd State Controller of California to be very inspiring to
me.
When you served as Member of the
California State Board of Equalization
from the 1st District from 2005-2015, I truly appreciated on how you
were a strong supporter of Civil Rights by advocating for people with
disabilities’ rights, supporting funds
to help fund women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the
economy, and expressing the need for equal pay for women to help protect them
from being discriminated based on gender.
On the environment, I liked on
how you supported funds for renewable energy resources help reduce addiction to
oil with gas and work with both political parties in the Members of the California
State Board of Equalization to provide
funds to local cities to help clean up parks including water resources to make
them safe for people to use. On
education I like on how you supported to fund special education to help
students with disabilities get accommodations they need to learn and
implemented after school programs to provide students with help on their
assignments from tutors. Expressing the need to raise the minimum wage to help
assist minimum wage workers afford to live and expanding job-training programs
to help train youth including workers develop work-skills to help prepare to
work for the workforce is common sense to improve the economy. In your current role as 32nd State
Controller of California, I like on how you are a continuous supporter of Civil
Rights including people with disabilities’ rights, provide funds to help restore historical sites
including museums or attractions to help restore them along with improve
learning, work on pushing for ethics reform like banning gifts to staff members
or public officials from lobbyist to reduce corruption, and advocate for the
need for affordable housing to help people who are poor or can’t afford to live
get shelter. Besides your work in public
service, I like on how you use your role as an Asian American to advocate for
Asian Americans including Asian American with people with disabilities’ rights,
work with the Asian American communities get fund to help repair them, and
express the need for immigration reform to help protect immigrants including
refugees from being oppressed.
State Controller Yee, I have autism
with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have
trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I
struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of
Civil Rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to
work hard on my disability. Also your
role as former Member of the California
State Board of Equalization from the 1st
District and as current 32nd State Controller of California gives me
some motivation to continue to learn history including social justice. Also
being an Asian American with a disability is difficult when some Asians or some
Asian Americans tease me or get judgmental about me being different. Your
advocacy for Asian American rights including Asian Americans with disabilities’
rights helps give me some confidence about being an Asian American when I face
different challenges. My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help
emphasize the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination,
protect the environment from pollution, and many others.
I strongly believe that you made a
great difference in public service. I’m very proud on how you are working hard
to support civil rights, protect the environment, expand on ethics reform, and
advocate for Asian American communities. You have inspired me to work hard on
my disability, be confident about being an Asian American when I face
challenges, and to continue to learn history including social justice. Thanks for taking the time to reading my
letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me. Please
continue to advocate for common sense ideas.
Sincerely,
Matt Winick
