Dear Attorney General Ellison,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong  interest in learning history including social justice. In these subjects, I like to learn the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, and many others. Attorney General Ellison, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work when you served as Member of the U.S. House of Representative from Minnesota’s 5^th District from 2007-2019 and as current 30^th Attorney General of Minnesota to be very inspiring to me.

When you served as Member of the U.S. House of Representative from Minnesota’s 5^th District from 2007-2019, I liked on how you supported civil rights to help protect minorities, women, and people with disabilities from being discriminated.   On health care I liked on how you supported to expand on Children’s Health Insurance Program to help children or children who cant afford health insurance get the care they need on dealing with diseases,  voted in favor of The Affordable Care Act to help people with pre-existing conditions including people under 26 get health care when it wasn’t popular in congress, and worked with Democrats including some moderate Republicans to expand stem cell research funds to find ways to cure different diseases.  Supporting funds for renewable energy resources to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, encouraging businesses including industries to use energy-efficient products to reduce high energy cost while reduce pollution, and opposing the built of the Keystone Pipeline to help protect public lands including Native American lands from oil spills is common sense to protect the environment.    In 2019, I was amazed on how you made history on becoming the first African American and Muslim to become the 30^th Attorney General of Minnesota.  In your current role as 30^th Attorney General of Minnesota I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, prosecuting people who commit hate-crime to help protect minorities including people who are different, and investigating public places that practice different forms of discrimination or violate civil rights legislation.  Supporting drug treatment programs to help drug-users get the care they need to reduce drug abuse, working with law enforcement to expand resources to help victims of crime or victims of  domestic violence get help on dealing with their trauma, and expressing the need for more funds to improve DNA testing including forensic science to help solve cases or evidence efficiently while reduce sending an innocent person to jail is common sense for criminal justice reform.  Another thing that I like about your work as Attorney General of Minnesota is how you support the idea of community services to help non-violent offenders or non-violent juveniles get rehabilitated so they won’t reoffend, went after industries that illegally polluted the environment or violated environmental protection laws to reduce pollution while improve public health, prosecute public officials that are corrupt or accepted  illegal bribes,  and investigate financial companies or insurance industries that practice fraud.

Attorney General Ellison, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. your commitment to be a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.  Also your role as former Member of the U.S. House of Representative from Minnesota’s 5^th District and as current Attorney General of Minnesota gives me motivation to continue to learn history including social justice. My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, and many others.  My letter is a gift to you for inspiring me and to wish you a Happy Birthday for August 4^th.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference for social justice, society, and criminal justice reform.  I’m amazed on how you made history on becoming the first African American and first Muslim to become Attorney General of Minnesota.  You have inspired me to work hard on my disability and be motivated to continue to learn history including social justice.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me.  I wish you the best to continue to advocate for common sense ideas.
