c/o Office of the Mayor
City of Champaign

Champaign, IL  61820

Dear Mayor Feinen,

My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history including social justice. In these subjects, I like to learn the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, and many others. Mayor Feinen, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as Mayor of Champaign, Illinois to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as Mayor of Champaign, Illinois, I truly appreciate on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, supporting funds for women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy,  and working with city council members to expand laws to combat against hate-crime to help protect minorities including people who are different.  To improve the economy, I liked on how you expand on job-training programs to help train youth including workers to develop work-skills to help prepare for the workforce and express the need to raise the minimum wage to help minimum wage workers afford to live.  Supporting funds for renewable energy resources to help reduce addiction to oil with gas,  encouraging businesses including industries to use energy-efficient products to reduce high energy cost while reduce pollution, and pushing for funds to improve city services to help clean parks including water resources to make them safe for people to use is common sense to protect the environment.  On education, I like on how you push for funds to improve special education to help students with disabilities get accommodations like extra time on exams or have educational software to improve comprehension, implement after school programs to provide students with help on their assignments from tutors,  and increase more literacy programs to help youth including adults develop reading skills or improve on their comprehension. Another thing that I like about your work as Mayor of Champaign, Illinois is how you support funds to restore or improve attractions including historical sites to make learning a better tool along with improve on tourism, push for more assistance programs to help the homeless people get foods including supplies, and advocate for the need to have affordable housing to help people who are low-income or people who can’t afford to live get shelter. Also I like on how you work with  other U.S. Mayors in different political affiliation from different cities in the U.S. Conference of Mayors to find solutions on immigration reform, social justice, environmental protection, and civil rights.

Mayor Feinen, I have autism with a learning disability.  Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability.  On Youtube I enjoy watching videos of you sharing what it is like being Mayor of Champaign, Illinois.   Your current role as Mayor of Champaign,  Illinois gives me some motivation to continue to learn history including social justice.  My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, improve on social justice to make communities safe, and many others.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference for society. I’m very proud on how you are working hard to support civil rights, protect the environment, improve social justice, and many others. You have inspire me to work hard on my disability, learn about your work, and continue to learn  history including social justice.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me. I wish you the best for the future.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick
