P.O. Box 94604

Dear State Senator McCollister,
My name is Matt Winick from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history including social justice. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, and many others. State Senator McCollister, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as State Senator of the Nebraska 20th District and as a moderate Republican to be very inspiring to me.
In your current role as State Senator of the Nebraska 20th District, I truly appreciate on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights, supporting funds for women including minorities businesses to help them compete in the economy, and working with other state legislatures to expand on laws to combat against hate crime to help protect minorities including people who are different. Supporting funds for renewable energy resources to help reduce addiction to oil with gas, encouraging businesses including industries to use energy efficient products to help reduce high energy cost while reduce pollution, and working with other state legislatures to expand funds to help companies work on clean energy technology to create jobs while protect the environment is common sense to protect the environment. On education, i liked on how you support funds to help improve special education to help students with disabilities to get accommodations they need to learn and expand on literacy programs to help youth including adults develop or improve on comprehension. having the courage to support legislation to repeal the death penalty to reduce wrongful convictions, supporting funds to improve DNA testing including forensic science to help solve evidence efficiently while reduce sending an innocent person to jail, and pushing for more drug treatment programs to help drug users get the care they need to reduce drug abuse is common sense for criminal justice reform. Another thing that I like about your work in the Nebraska State Legislature is how you support police reform bill like body cameras on police officers including this investigation on police that commit misconduct, heavily advocate for medicaid including health care reform to help people who are low-income including people with disabilities to get help on their health, and many others. Also I like on how you are a moderate Republican on supporting civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights, heavily support the environmental protection, expanding on criminal justice reform, and speak out against voter suppression laws.
State Senator McCollister, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased. Also with my disability, I struggle with getting access to health care including some government services due to being discriminated on a disability. Your commitment to be a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights really inspires me to work hard on my disability. On Youtube and on different articles I enjoy learning about your work, how you spoke up against the GOP including President Trump for using controversial views, being anti people with disabilities’ rights, anti- environmental protection. Your current role as State Senator of the Nebraska 20th District gives me motivation to continue to learn history including social justice. My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, and many others.
I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in public service. I’m very proud on how you are a moderate Republican and working hard to support civil rights, protect the environment, expand on criminal justice reform, and many other common sense ideas. Also I truly appreciate on how you have the courage to speak out against hate and when the GOP gets too extreme. You have inspire me to work hard on my disability, learn about your work, and continue to learn different subjects. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me. Please continue to advocate and support common sense ideas.
Sincerely,
Matt Winick
