Dear Ms. Baik,
My name is Matt Winick, an Asian American from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history, social justice, and current events. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for Civil Rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, have social justice to help improve the communities, and many others. Ms. Baik, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as a news reporter of KARE 11 to be very inspiring to me.
In your current role as a news reporter of KARE 11, I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights causes by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights and expressing the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination in order to protect minorities including people who are different. Also I like on how you are a strong supporter of campaign to combat against bullying. Your approach in the news media like interviewing people about different topics ranging from local politics through other topics, doing hands-on approach with other people in businesses or when they are demonstrating a product to help viewers understand them, and taking the time to listen to citizens of America including citizens of the Minnesota area when they have concerns are great ways for journalism. Another thing that I like about your work as a news reporter of the KARE 11 is how you give tips on healthy lifestyles, reporting on public officials who are corrupt, asking public officials that hard question to hold them accountable, exploring different topics related to medical research to combat against different diseases, highlighting different ideas to improve communities or society, support emphasizing the need for environmental protection to reduce pollution, and many others. Also another thing to mention is I like on how you heavily advocate for the need for auditing of government agencies including non-profit organizations to make sure that money isn’t being abused or wasted when they are needed to improve services, heavily emphasize the need for better mental health services to help people who struggle with a mental health or have the illnesses, express the need to have criminal justice reform including combat against racial injustice, and support educational awareness about minorities communities. On the KARE 11 I like on how you talk about minorities communities and do educational awareness about different issues that affect society. Besides your work as a news reporter, I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights causes to reduce discrimination and social justice causes to improve communities.
Ms. Baik, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts in different settings (social and environmental), and get teased. Also with my disability I have face some challenges on understanding social cues and dealing with social anxiety. Your advocacy along with support for civil rights including people with disabilities’ right causes really inspire me to work hard on my disability. Also being an Asian American with a disability is difficult when some Asians including some Asian American tease me or get judgmental about not meeting their standards. Your role as an Asian American role model on supporting Asian American with disabilities’ rights gives me some confidence about being an Asian American when I face challenges. On Youtube, your page, and on the KARE 11 website I enjoy learning about your work including some current events. Your role as a news reporter of KARE 11 helps give me motivation to continue to learn history, social justice, and current events. My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, expand on social justice to improve communities, and many others.
I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in society and the news media. You really inspire me to work hard on my disability, use critical thinking to understand things, be confident about being an Asian American with a disability, and continue to learn history, social justice, and current events. I was wondering if you could please give me some advice about working hard on my disability along with how you got interested in the news media career. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference for society, and inspiring me. Please continue to make a great difference for society and the news media.
Sincerely,
Matt Winick
