Dear Ms. Tran,

My name is Matt Winick, an Asian American and I’m a fan of your acting. My favorite Disney movie that you were in was Raya and The Last Dragon. Raya and The Last Dragon was a great Disney movie about Raya, a warrior princess of Heart who has been training to become a guardian of the dragon gem has to go on a journey to find the last dragon and other allies to help save Kumandra from the evil spirit Druun. Ms., Tran, I thought you did an excellent job making Raya a great character with different unique traits like caring about people that have struggles, learning advice from Sisu, the dragon on understanding life or to improve herself, and many others. Also what I liked about Raya was how she would work with other allies like Boun, Namaari, and Tong, Little Noi when they would have some differences. Raya and The Last Dragon had some good messages about the importance of compassion, using critical thinking as a tool for good is helpful at different situations, learning how to understand where people are coming from along with emotional intelligence is a good way to understand people, and many others.

Besides your acting career,  I truly appreciate on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights causes to reduce discrimination. Also on your activism I like on how you are an advocate for social justice to improve communities and support the need for  universal health care to help people with pre-existing conditions or who can’t afford health insurance get the care they need. Ms. Tran, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts, and get teased.  Another thing that I struggle with a disability is when other people including other adults get judgmental about me being different from them and have struggles to find different methods to improve myself and when I feel like I’m awkward to people or in different settings.  When I deal with these challenges I struggle to understand life or how to feel about things.  Your commitment to be a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights causes really inspires me to work hard on my disability.   Your character Raya in Disney Raya and The Last Dragon helps give me motivation to work hard to find different methods to improve myself when there are challenges and use critical thinking including compassion when the world gets tough.   Being an Asian American with a disability is hard for me because some Asians and some Asian Americans get judgmental about me being different from them or not meeting their standards. Also your role as an Asian American and being an advocate along with a supporter of Asians with disabilities’ rights and Asian Americans with disabilities’ rights gives me confidence about being an Asian American with a disability when there are challenges.

I strongly believe that you are a very talented actress. You did a excellent job making Raya a great character with different unique traits in Raya and The Last Dragon. You truly inspire me to work hard on my disability, be a fan of your work, continue to find different methods to improve myself, and be confident about being an Asian American with a disability. I was wondering if you could please share with me some advice about working hard on my disability.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference, and inspiring me. Please continue to make a great difference.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick
