Dear Ms. Cheng,
My name is Matt Winick, an Asian American from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history, social justice, and current events. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for Civil Rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, have social justice to help improve the communities, and many others. Ms. Cheng, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as News Reporter of KTLA-TV and your activism to be very inspiring to me.
In your current role as a News Reporter of KTLA-TV, I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights causes by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights and expressing the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination in order to protect minorities including people who are different. Also I like on how you are a strong supporter of campaign to combat against bullying. Your approach in the news media like interviewing people about different topics ranging from local politics through other topics, doing hands-on approach with other people in businesses or when they are demonstrating a product to help viewers understand them, and taking the time to listen to citizens of America including citizens of the LA area when they have concerns are great ways for journalism. Another thing that I like about your work as a news reporter of the KTLA-TV is how you give tips on healthy lifestyles, how to prepare on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting on public officials who are corrupt, asking public officials that hard question to hold them accountable, exploring different topics related to medical research to combat against different diseases, highlighting different ideas to improve communities or society, support emphasizing the need for environmental protection to reduce pollution, and many others. Also I like on how you are an activist to help the Asian American community like advocating for Asian American rights including Asian Americans with disabilities’ rights, expressing the need for more funds for the Asian American community to help repair it, and heavily support the need for more educational awareness programs to help educate people including youth about Asian American and Asian culture. Besides your work as a news reporter, I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights causes to reduce discrimination.
Ms. Cheng, , I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts in different settings (social and environmental), and get teased. Also with my disability I have face some challenges on understanding social cues and dealing with social anxiety. Your advocacy along with support for civil rights including people with disabilities’ right causes really inspire me to work hard on my disability. Also being an Asian American with a disability is difficult when some Asians including some Asian American tease me or get judgmental about not meeting their standards. Your role as an Asian American role model on supporting Asian American with disabilities’ rights gives me some confidence about being an Asian American when I face challenges. On Youtube, KTLA-TV website, and your page I enjoy learning about your work including some current events. On Youtube “Kimberly Cheng’s Family Hollywood resilience and strength” I really enjoyed learning about your family on how you with your family escaped from Cambodia due to the oppression from the government, how you worked hard to overcome challenges on being an immigrant with your family in the Los Angeles, and you working hard to overcome different challenges. I have enjoyed visiting LA on many of my trips where I got to explore the Broad Museum to see modern art, Chinese American Museum to learn history of Chinese American, explore the Santa Monica area, and many others. Also the reason I like visiting the LA is to learn about the culture, diversity, and eating dairy free or vegan recipes.
I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in society and the news media. You really inspire me to work hard on my disability, continue to be confident about being an Asian American when I face challenges, and continue to learn history, social justice, and current events. I was wondering if you could please give me some advice about working hard on my disability along with how to get interested in the news media career. Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference for society, and inspiring me. Please continue to make a great difference for society and the news media.
If I visit LA area I would like to meet you because you inspire me and give me a tour of the news station.
I have a picture of me on my visit to LA for you to keep as a gift for inspiring me.
Sincerely,
Matt Winick
