Dear Ms. Chen,

My name is Matt Winick, an Asian American from Ann Arbor, Michigan and I have a strong interest in learning history, social justice, and current events. In these subjects, I like to learn the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, have social justice to help improve the communities, and many others.  Ms. Chen, the main reason I’m writing you a letter is to explain how I find your work as a news reporter/anchor of KCTV5 News to be very inspiring to me.

In your current role as a news reporter/anchor of KCTV5 News, I  like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights causes by advocating for people with disabilities’ rights and expressing the need to make civil rights stronger to reduce discrimination in order to protect minorities including people who are different.  Also I like on how you are a strong supporter of campaign to combat against bullying.  Your approach in the news media like interviewing people about different topics ranging from local politics through other topics, doing hands-on approach with other people in businesses or when they are demonstrating a product to help viewers understand them, and taking the time to listen to citizens of America when they have concerns are great ways for journalism. Another thing that I like about your work in the KCTV5 news is how you give tips on healthy lifestyles, reporting on public officials who are corrupt, asking public officials that hard question to hold them accountable, address the need to help people who are poor or who are homeless get the help they need, support emphasizing the need for environmental protection to reduce pollution, and many others. Also another thing to mention is I like on how you heavily advocate for the need for auditing of government agencies including non-profit organizations  to make sure that money isn’t being abused or wasted when they are needed to improve services, heavily emphasize the need for better mental health services to help people who struggle with a mental health or have the illnesses, and support educational awareness about minorities communities. in the KCTV5 news I like on how you would highlight different attractions including historical sites around the Kansas including Kansas City Missouri along with Kansas City Kansas.  Also I like on how you are an activist to help the Asian American community like advocating for Asian American rights including Asian Americans with disabilities’ rights, expressing the need for more funds for the Asian American community to help repair it, and heavily support the need for more educational awareness programs to help educate people including youth about Asian American and Asian culture. Besides your work in the news media  I like on how you are a strong supporter of civil rights including people with disabilities’ rights causes to reduce discrimination and heavily advocate for better mental health services to help people who struggle with a mental health.

Ms. Chen, I have autism with a learning disability. Having a disability is hard for me because I have trouble comprehending on learning different advance subjects, sometimes I struggle to communicate my thoughts in different settings (social and environmental), and get teased. Also with my disability I have face some challenges on understanding social cues and dealing with social anxiety. Your advocacy along with support for civil rights including people with disabilities’ right causes really inspire me to work hard on my disability. Also being an Asian American with a disability is difficult when some Asians including some Asian American tease me or get judgmental about not meeting their standards.   Your role as an Asian American role model on supporting Asian American with disabilities’ rights gives me some confidence about being an Asian American when I face challenges. On Youtube, your page, and on KCTV5 News website I enjoy learning about your work including some current events.  I have enjoyed visiting Kansas area including Kansas City, Missouri where I got to explore the Kansas Museum of History to learn the history of Kansas, the Brown vs Board of Education to learn the history of this important Supreme Court case along with how it started to be part of the Civil Rights Movement, The Nelson Atkins Art Museum to explore different arts. I enjoy visiting the are to learn history including culture. Your role as  a news reporter/anchor of KCTV5 News helps give me motivation to continue to learn gives me motivation to continue to learn history, social justice, and current events. My future goal is to someday work in these areas to help emphasize the the need for civil rights to be stronger to reduce discrimination, protect the environment from pollution, have social justice to help improve the communities, and many others.

I strongly believe that you are making a great difference in society and the news media.  You really inspire me to work hard on my disability, continue to be confident about being an Asian American when I face challenges, and continue to learn history, social justice, and current events. I was wondering if you could please could share with me on how you got inspired to be in the news media.  Thanks for taking the time to read my letter, working hard to make a great difference for society, and inspiring me. Please continue to make a great difference for society and the news media.

Sincerely,

Matt Winick
